Have you received a Notice of Final Demand for a failure to vote fine?
Published on 08 Sep 2025
Fines Victoria has started issuing Notices of Final Demand for fines registered with us by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) for failure to vote in the Local Council election held in October 2024.
You have received a Notice of Final Demand because you didn’t resolve your fine with VEC by the due date. For information on failure to vote fines and steps taken by VEC to contact you before registering the fine with us, visit the Victorian Electoral Commission website.
You should act before the due date on the Notice of Final Demand. Your options may include:
- paying the fine
- asking for more time to pay
- applying to pay by instalments
- asking for a review if you think the fine was unfairly issued or there is a valid reason why it should be reviewed
- applying for a Work and Development permit, if eligible
- applying for the Family Violence Scheme, if eligible.
If you ask for a review, you must choose the grounds for review. This is the reason you are asking for the review and by law, there are only 5 grounds you can choose from.
By law, you must update your address within 14 days of moving house. We can’t grant a review on the ground of Person Unaware if you didn’t update your authorised address within 14 days of moving house.
Visit Request a review to learn more about the grounds for review and the type of supporting evidence you have to provide when asking for a review.
